As a photographer I always enjoy the new year, it is a time to work on the 'business' aspect of Amy Davis Photography, like the redoing of my website!  I thought this would be a fun way to kick off the blog section!  It is also a time to do some home projects I have been putting off for way too long.  Things I want to do but just don't get to.  Here is a little project I just completed.

I chose 'Wild Oats' for my color.  It is an earthy grey tan color.  I love how neutral it is.  There are so many color options to chose from - from fun bold colors to calming neutral colors.   Country Girl Creations carries Junk Gypsy paint and it is available at Every Little Thing in Elmwood. 

Here is a before photo of a chair.  We bought them used 13 years ago.  Pre children. They were white, white. After 10 plus years of children and general use, you can see they are stained but the chair is still in really great shape. They are a swiveling barrel chair.  so comfy.   I spent a lot of time snuggling my babies in these chairs.  Now they sit in them to play video games.  They needed some new life breathed into them, it was time. 

Country Girl Creations has a link on their facebook page with the exact recipe to use chalk paint on fabric.  You mix water and fabric softner in with the paint.  I had a slight panic attack at first, it seemed so watery but once you stir a bit it mixes really well.   Once I got started things went pretty quickly.  My chairs dried over night.  I decided I wanted to soften the look, pull the texture back out on my chairs so I used a fine grit sand paper.  I really liked how that softened the fabric and brought out the texture.  You can see my test spot where I sanded on the right. 

There is some variation to the color due to application of paint and to sanding.....and to me being a non perfectionist human.  I like a little variety in my life.  I am still seeing little white spots that I have to touch up.  This was my first paint project in years.  I think it went pretty well.I am really enjoying my chairs new look!
